How to install Kernel 4.8 rc1 on Ubuntu 16.04

Download the needed packages:


$ cd /tmp

$ wget \

Install the Kernel:

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.8*.deb linux-image-4.8*.deb

$ sudo reboot

Install the Kernel:

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.8*.deb linux-image-4.8*.deb

$ sudo reboot

Check Kernel version:

$ uname -r

Optional, remove the kernel:


$ sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-4.8* linux-image-4.8*
